ENTRIES CLOSE: 5:00 p.m Friday, April 18, 2008 after which time entries cannot be accepted, canceled, altered, or substituted except as provided for in Chapter 11, Section 6 of the Dog Show rules.

No entry fees will be refunded if the trial cannot open or be completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, an act of God, public emergency, or any other cause beyond the control of the organizing committee.

 

Note –NEW - Bitches coming in to season after the trial closes can get all but $10 of their entry fees for the entire trial refunded, with a vet's certificate.  Entry Fees will not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by a Veterinarian, or a Judge, or barred from competition by action of the Trial Committee.

 

 

Unsportsmanlike conduct, including rough handling, disrespect of trial workers or others, or misconduct of any kind, will result in refusal of entries, or excusal from the trial site.  SMDTC reserves the right to decline entries or remove any dog from this event for cause.

Exhibitors are responsible for being at ringside when it is their turn to run.  All Dogs must be on leash at all times except when in the ring or in the designated agility warm-up area.

Exhibitors may wear shirts or insignias of their training group if they wish.

HEIGHT DIVISIONS

As of January 1, 2001 all agility dogs are required to have a jump height card.  The judge of record must measure any dog that has not been officially measured before they are allowed to participate in a trial, except 24.”   Exhibitors may choose to enter their dog in a higher height division than required by AKC, but not in a height division lower than the AKC mandated height in regular classes.  Preferred must run in proper height class.  Dogs that run in a height division lower than their proper division will be eliminated.

OBSTACLES

Obstacles shall meet the specifications for obstacles in the current edition of Regulations for Agility Trials.

 

DOGS ELIGIBLE TO ENTER

This trial is open to all dogs over the age of 12 months that are registered with the American Kennel Club or are registerable breeds that have obtained AKC ILP numbers, except bitches in season, aggressive dogs, or dogs suffering from any deformity, injury, or illness which may affect the dog's physical or mental performance.   Refer to Chapter 2 of the Registration and discipline Rules for the listing registerable breeds that may participate.

REMINDER: AKC Jump Height Policy

All Dogs competing in Agility are required to present an Official Jump Height Card prior to running in an Agility Trial.

 

SMDTC will accept photocopies of the permanent height card with entries for the show. All dogs without a permanent height card will have to be measured by the judge before running, except those in the 24” and 26” height classes. An AKC representative will be at the trial.

 

CLASS INFORMATION

Please see the AKC Regulations for Agility Trials for current class descriptions.  Dogs must be entered only in regular Classes or Preferred Classes with no crossover between them allowed at the same set of trials.

 

COURSE FAMILIARIZATION:  Handlers in all classes are permitted to walk the course without a dog prior to the start of the class.  A walk through period will be held prior to each class.  A warm-up area, consisting of a regulation agility jump, shall be provided for all exhibitors.   There will be NO OBSTACLE FAMILIARIZATION  FOR NOVICE DOGS!!

 

SHOW SITE

Indoor arena.  Dirt packed running surface.  Site will be open for crate set up from 6:00 to 7:00PM on May 3, 2007.  Lots of parking and indoor restrooms.  RV parking available on site (no hook-ups).   Restaurant on site.   Fast food restaurants at Mt. Vernon, located on I-44 approx. 3 miles west of the 174 exit.

Rosettes will be awarded for 1st through 4th place in each jump height in each class.  Qualifying ribbons will be awarded to all dogs receiving a qualifying score.  Dogs must qualify to receive placement rosettes.  There will be a dog-related prize for qualifiers in all classes.  New title rosettes will be given to those finishing their title.  DQ Rosettes and MACH Rosettes & Bar will be awarded.

These motels have told us they accept well-behaved dogs.  Please confirm motel’s pet policy as you make your reservations—we do not guarantee that dogs are accepted.  Please pick up after your dog and treat motel property with care!  Do not leave dogs unattended or loose in rooms.

Online Entries accepted through www.DogEventsOnline.com.  Online Entry Limit of 300 and a Paper Entry Limit of 300 during the first 48 hours after the trial opens.

 

ENTRY FEES/MOVE-UPS

 

Friday move-ups should be mailed, emailed, or delivered to the Trial Secretary.  Move-ups for Friday close 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008.  Move-Up Forms for Saturday will be available at the trial site and should be filled out and submitted to the Trial Secretary on or before trial closing on Friday. Move-Up Forms for Sunday will be available at the trial site and should be filled out and submitted to the Trial Secretary on or before trial closing on Saturday. Entries will not be accepted without fees. Make checks payable to SMDTC (return check charge is $25.00). No entries will be accepted which require a signature for delivery.  All entries must be submitted on official AKC Agility Entry Form, one dog per entry form.  Photocopied entries without the AKC agreement on the back are NOT acceptable.  Unsigned, incomplete or illegible entries are NOT acceptable and cannot be entered in the trial.  (AKC Rule, CH.14, Sec.4.) Faxed entries and/or credit cards cannot be accepted.  Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee.

DIRECTIONS & SITE INFORMATION

 

General Directions to the Flyin’ M Arena:  From Interstate 44 go .3 mile west on Hwy 174 (Exit 49 – Chesapeake, 3 miles east of Mt. Vernon), then North on Hwy M for 2.3 miles to the Flyin’ M Arena on the right side of the road.

 

There are indoor bathrooms.  There will be crating space available inside the arena.  We ask, when possible, that crates be stacked.  Standard 4’ by 4’ X-pens will be allowed, but only for use by 2 or more dogs.

 

As with every trial, picking up after your dog(s) is a handler responsibility.  This is a very nice site and we want to be able to hold many trials here.  Please help us in keeping the site clean and as we found it before arriving.

NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS

EXHIBITORS MUST CLEAN UP AFTER THEIR DOGS!!

Exhibitors who do not clean up after their dogs at the show site or hotel will be excused from the trial.  NO REFUNDS if excused. Exhibitors should follow their veterinarians’ recommendation to assure their dogs are free of internal and external parasites, any communicable diseases, and have appropriate vaccinations. The safety of the dogs is our primary concern.  By entering this trial, exhibitors acknowledge that they are familiar with the rules and regulations of this sport, and that their dogs are familiar with and able to perform all obstacles safely.
